Sophora Microphylla

Sophora Microphylla
Kowhai

The national flower and a New Zealand icon. The small leaved kowhai is a tree grown for its appealing foliage and glorious display of golden yellow flowers. Sophora microphylla is the first tree kowhai to flower in spring, beginning in early September. As an adult it's modest height and delicate lacy foliage make it a great specimen or shade tree and will bring birds, especially Tuis's, to the garden. To get a longer spread of flowers for attracting birds into the garden, plant one of each species of Kowhai. 5m x 4m.
